Getting Cheek Implants

Whether you have always felt somewhat self-conscious about your cheek structure and the shape of your face, or if you are thinking of getting an enhancement procedure to change the way you look, getting cheek implants is one option that is available and in some cases, it is also minimally invasive.

What are Cheek Implants?

Cheek implants include a procedure in which a plastic surgeon helps to re-shape and mold the cheeks themselves, often lifting them and making them appear higher than average. This can contribute to allowing the patient to look and feel younger once the healing process is complete. Cheek implants help to increase the fullness in the face and in specific cheek areas, depending on the final results you have in mind. In most cases, silicone prosthetic implants are used to boost the overall aesthetic appearance of the cheeks while adding more fullness to the patient's face. Additional materials commonly used with cheek implants include polyethylene as well as ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene).

Incisions are made generally in the upper part of the mouth (near the very top of the gun line), where the cheek implants are then inserted and set into place, enhancing the outer appearance of the cheek structure and face altogether. Cheek implants can also be done using an incision near the eye, although there is less risk of a visual scar when choosing to have the incision done within the mouth.

Who Should Get Cheek Implants?

While there are no specific limitations or restrictions to getting cheek implants, those who are feeling extremely self-conscious about their cheeks and facial structure make strong candidates for cheek implants. Additionally, patients who may have a deformity, sunken cheeks, or even uneven cheeks on both sides of their face may also qualify as an ideal candidate for the procedure.
